Employment Information

To be considered for an opening:

A complete application packet is required for each position you are applying for.

Applications are only accepted for positions that are currently open and being advertised by the Saco School Department. Open ended applications will not be considered and will be filed as inactive.  It is the responsibility of the applicant to re-apply for open positions.

Application forms must be complete for consideration. A complete packet includes:

1. A completed Saco School Department Employment Application:

Teaching application
Non-teaching application
(including ed techs, secretaries, bus drivers, custodians, cafeteria workers)
Administrative application
Substitute teaching application

2. Resume with Cover Letter

3. Three (3) Professional Letters of Reference:

Experienced teachers should submit a reference from their most current principal. Additional references should be from an assistant principal, department chair or team leader.  Experienced teachers can submit copies of final evaluations as references provided that it contains a narrative portion.
Beginning teachers should submit student teaching evaluations or a college placement file that contains student teaching evaluations. The references should be from a mentor teacher and a university supervisor.  In some situations, other professional references may be accepted.

4. Copy of Maine certification(s), including fingerprinting (CHRC) approval

Any questions regarding teacher certification and/or CHRC fingerprinting status should be addressed to the Maine Department of Education, Division of Certification and Placement, Augusta, Maine 04333.

In order to be considered for a teaching position in Saco School Department you will need a Maine state certification or an eligibility checklist from the Maine Department of Education. For assistance please call the Maine Department of Education at 207-624-6603 or visit their website.

Furthermore, all employees must be fingerprinted and submit to a background check. Employment will not be finalized until this has been completed. For school purposes, fingerprinting is required to be completed by the Maine State Police and is arranged by the Office of Certification in the Maine Department of Education.

5. College Transcripts – copies are acceptable

If you are requesting that letters and transcripts be sent independent of your application, please ensure that your application is the first to arrive. A transcript/reference letter that arrives with no explanatory note and no pre-existing file will be considered incomplete.

6. Praxis Series test scores or other test scores required to obtain an out of state certificate.

7. Additional documentation as indicated on the job-specific application and/or posted vacancy.

Applications are not reviewed until the deadline for application receipt has passed. Candidates invited for interviews will be contacted by phone for a panel interview. Once an offer of employment is accepted, other interviewed candidates are informed of the decision by mail.

All application materials become the property of the Saco School Department and will not be returned.

Providing any false or misleading information in the application or screening process shall be fully sufficient grounds to refuse to employ the applicant, or if the applicant has been employed, to immediately dismiss the employee.
